After testing this product against the Solostar II juicer we decided this unit is not the best choice in single auger juicers. We got 2 more oz. of carrot juicer with the Solostar ll while only juicing 1.5 lbs of carrots. With the price of organic produce the way it is today you do not want to leave all that juice & nutrition in the discarded pulp.

You may never have heard of the Solostar ll before and that is because they do not spend million$ on advertising like Omega does. The Solostar actually has a bigger motor, 180 watts vs 150 for the Omega. The Solostar ll does not come in the pretty chrome finish like the 8005 but that is chrome over plastic not metal. The chrome color was really the only reason we carried the 8005. The only advantage we found with the 8005 vs Solo was it cleaned up in about 1 minute faster but I certainly would spend an extra minute on clean up to get a better yield. Note: The Solostar will do everything the 8005 is capable of doing and even better in some categories like extraction. The Solostar ll also comes with all the same accessories that the Omega 8005 comes with.

Keep in mind the Solostar ll was just updated (January 2008) with a stronger juicing screen and end locking cap, they were two things that needed address and now that they have been updated I think the Solostar will hold up just as long or longer than the Omega. Both units are built in Korea and of good quality. I personally use the Green Star 2000 twin gear juicer which i feel is the best on the market for the money. I think the Solostar ll is a good second choice, certainly a better choice than the Omega 8005. I use the Solostar for only doing small quantities of the juice.

You do get a complete (parts & labor) 5 year warrantee with the Solostar ll. Keep in mind that some of these other juicers with longer warranties have a limit on what is cover after 5 years. Also remember you want to own a juicer that crushes at slow speeds because of how well they extract juice from green leafy produce, organic green leafy is extremely valuable in a juicing diet.
